INTRODUCTION

This project entails the task of enriching the existing landscape and create a lush urban oasis with a variety of recreational activities around the existing residence.
The site is located in an upscale district in Dhaka, Gulshan, in proximity to many embassies and corporate offices. The site is populated with many large trees, a characteristic of the neighborhood.
The project scheme aims to uphold the landscape while complementing the sophisticated lifestyle of its occupants.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN

1. Boundary Wall
The existing boundary wall will be modified to be in harmony with the landscape that it encloses. Up-lights from floor will be used to wash the wall while softening its rough textures.

2. Drive Way
Cobble paved curving drive way guides the visitors to the entrance porch. Floor lights along the edges demarcates the pathway as well as softens the hard landscape.

3. Porch and Entrance
The courtyard at the entrance is treated as a miniature Zen garden, where the lone existing Neem tree is preserved. The space is envisioned as a transition from the busy day of work into a serene home environment.

4. Cobble Paved Pathway
A winding pathway paved with cobble stones, flank the garden and connect different activity zones.
Garden lights beneath the trees encourage a quiet stroll in the garden, while occasional timber bench allows for contemplation

5. Passive Activity Area
Tucked away in two corners of the garden, two paved areas with a variety of outdoor furniture allows for passive activities such as reading, relaxing and contemplation.
These paved, free flowing zones with lush greenery and planted buffers inculcate an outdoor living experience in a tropical ambiance.

6. Lawn
A lawn is placed in between the main house and the secluded activity zones of the landscape, where the public activities of the house could flow out to.
Occasional paved areas contain seating while the lawn is envisioned for activities such as sports and garden parties

7. Planted Buffers
A row of predominantly bamboo trees is located around the edge of the site, to serve as visual and sound buffer from the neighborhood. These also enhances the tropical ambiance of the landscape.
