House at Kandana

Located in the suburb of Colombo in Western Province, this project is unique in nature as it features an odd-shaped plot becoming one of the few challenges the site brings. The house was designed to have an L-shaped layout giving rise to a range of garden courts.

As one enters the site, they are greeted with extensive paving, patterned beautifully with tufts of grass slowing fading into the edges showcasing a preview of what emanates next.

Journeying further, concealed behind a rubble wall is a capacious pool overlooking the entirety of the landscape. Each species of plants were skillfully chosen to match the atmosphere and architecture of the house.

The courtyards of this project feature stepping stones that create undulating pathways that conform to the rhythm of nature. This in turn enhances the raw finishes this landscape exhibits. The project is an embodiment of how the landscape could be used in different techniques within the same plot to give varied spatial qualities.
